Meet our Dentists

Chris Brann BDS DPDS – Practice Owner

Dr Chris Brann qualified from Cardiff University in 1996 and gained his post graduate dental studies in 2003. In 2013 Chris Brann completed a yearlong course in dental implants and since then he has been working closely with Dr Phill Bennett from Lyme Bay Dentistry, one of the country’s leading implantologists. Chris Brann also has a special interest in denture construction and root canal therapy. He is also fully committed to ensuring his patients obtain great oral health to maximise their general wellbeing.

Outside of dentistry Chris is a keen sailor racing the Laser Radial dinghy at regional and club events. He also windsurfs and when the wind is not blowing attempts to be a gardener. Any other time is spent running after his two sons.

Gary Manning BDS DPDS

Gary worked for his first year in his home town of Plymouth. He then moved to Somerset working in North Petherton until 2001 when he joined us at Stoke Dental..

Gary recently completed a six month course on aesthetic dentistry, focussing on the use of white filling materials. In the right situation this can be a very effective way of providing excellent cosmetic results whilst looking after your natural teeth.

Gary also has an interest in the treatment and maintenance of gum disease.
Out of the dental arena, Gary is a keen birder, being fortunate enough to live near some of Somersets best nature reserves. Gary also enjoys reading, gardening and supports Plymouth Argyle (so please be gentle with him). Most of his spare time is spent with his growing family.

Sarah Manley BDS

Sarah qualified from Cardiff University in 1995. After moving to Somerset she worked in Burnham-on- Sea and Bridgwater. She has particular interest in
preventative dentistry.

Outside of dentistry she has two children and is chairperson of her local preschool and helps out at the Primary School. She also enjoys reading, gardening, cooking
and the odd glass of wine.

Annie Bedford BDS – Associate Dentist

Dr Annie Bedford qualified from Bristol University in 2006. She has gained much experience working in NHS and private dentistry. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and has a particular affinity with children. She is a self-confessed perfectionist and she has a particular interest in aesthetic dentistry.

In her spare time, Annie enjoys knitting, cooking and interior design. She has a great talent for all things practical. She is very much a nature lover and enjoys nothing more than getting out into the great outdoors. This involves anything from a walk in the countryside, heading down to the beach for a barbeque, a paddle in her kayak and occasionally yacht racing with her father in Poole harbour.

Ben Hastings BDS – Associate Dentist

Ben first joined us to cover Annie’s maternity leave in January 2017, working one day a week. He fitted in so well he decided to join us on a permanent basis in June 2017. Ben will be working Monday to Wednesday – he is the man to see in the evening as he will be working until 7pm. Ben is also holding a private clinic on the 1st Saturday of the Month to help our patients see a dentist around their busy work commitments.

Ben is from Perth, Scotland and qualified at Dundee University in 2015, his main interest is using his skills in dentistry to help people; he believes in a minimally invasive approach and enjoys treating the anxious patient. He finds it rewarding to do beautiful and natural work, which has lead to an interest in more aesthetic procedures, such as whitening.

Selina Grana – Dental Therapist

Selina Grana qualified in July 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Oral Health Sciences from Dundee University. She joined Stoke Dental in January 2016.

Outside of dentistry Selina enjoys baking, Zumba, spinning classes and reading

Heather Tanner – Dental Hygienist

Heather has worked in Somerset for many years and has been with us since 2005.

Currently she works on Tuesdays and Thursdays but we often book joint appointments with a dentist, reducing the number of times you have to visit the surgery.

Treatment

We provide a full range of treatments including prevention and cosmetic work. With a patients permission we refer patients between ourselves when we feel a colleague is better suited to a particular treatment.

After a thorough clinical examination, your dentist will describe any treatment that he or she recommends, an estimate of cost and any alternatives that may be available. Any relevant risks will also be discussed. Where appropriate, the dentist will use photographs and other visual aids to help explain the treatment. Please do not hesitate to ask questions, we want to be sure that you fully understand and agree with the proposed treatment. Your dentist may be able to give you some information to take home, we keep a supply of British Dental Health Foundation leaflets giving an independent view of dental procedures.

Most treatment is usually necessary to remove disease. We will show you how to reduce the chance of getting dental disease but obviously you need to follow the advice of your dentist or hygienist for the best results. We will give you advice on diet and consumption of sugary foods when needed and give you all the know how to look after your teeth at home. This home care plays a major role in preventing further problems and that in turn will help you keep an attractive smile, eat in full comfort and should minimise the need future treatment. If you do not understand your part in your care, please just ask.

We welcome companions who can help with translation or other communication issues. If needed, interpreter services can be arranged through the local PCT. Where a patient has learning difficulties, we encourage them to be accompanied by a spouse or carer who is experienced in reassuring and communicating with them and can help us to make sure that the patient understands what is happening. We always book longer appointments if communication is an issue. Where necessary, communication materials can be provided in a different format or by different routes to meet the needs of patients with special or different needs.
A written estimate and treatment plan will be provided for every course of treatment.

Recalls

Traditionally patients have visited their dentist every six months. We now try and tailor your recalls to your dental needs, usually every 3-12 months. Your dentist will discuss with you how often you should visit us and this can change as we achieve a stable healthy mouth. Please just ask if you have any queries about dental recalls.

Repairs and replacements

Our aim is high quality dental care. Occasionally treatment may need to be replaced or repairs may need to be undertaken. Our practice policy is to normally provide repairs or replacements free of charge if the treatment fails within one year. Full or partial refunds may also be given. Please contact us immediately if you experience difficulty with any treatment that we have provided.

Our appointment system

We like to book your next appointment when you are with us in surgery. We will then send you a reminder 1-2 weeks prior to your next appointment.

Confidentiality

We take great care to ensure that our patient records are maintained in strict confidence. We have a Confidentiality, Data Protection and Security policies. Should you wish to have further information please let us know.

Paying for your dental care

We provide a range of ways to pay for your dental care and accept payment in cash, cheque, credit and debit card. We can also offer care under Denplan where payment is made monthly or yearly (usually by direct debit). This can be a useful way of spreading the cost of your care. Please find enclosed our price list and Denplan information.
If you are paying from our price list, payment is usually made at the end of every appointment for the work completed at that visit.
If you are exempt or partially exempt from NHS charges (or think you may be) please let us know. We treat exempt patients under NHS arrangements (children, pregnant ladies etc.). There are some treatment items that are not covered under NHS arrangements however but we will advise you of these and quote appropriately.

Missed appointments

We do reserve the right to charge for missed appointments. For regular failures we may ask for payment upfront.

We try not to charge for late cancellations as we know life happens! We would rather know that you are unable to make your appointment so that we can use the time for other patients / emergencies (or coffee!). However we will ask for payment in advance if this becomes a regular problem.

Occasionally we may need to cancel your appointment for unforeseen reasons. If this is necessary we will do our best to contact you before 9 oʼclock on the day of the appointment.

Fee Guide

Please use our price list as a guide. For some items exact pricing cannot be given until we have assessed you but we will always give a full quote prior to treatment. Our prices are reviewed annually on the 1st April, however we do reserve the right to change prices during the year. We will do our utmost to honour quotes for a period of twelve months from date of issue and will inform you of any changes at your appointment.
